While I am settled in my flat, which Mel and I have worked really hard to make it feel like a home, even if our contract is for only a year, I can't help but lust over items which I wish I owned. Our flat really does have a homely feel, in fact it's the first time in four and a half years since moving out that I've fully felt at home, but not only that it reflects both of our personalities which I love.
However, I'm naturally an organiser and a bit of a magpie, so I constantly want to revamp everything in one way or another. This includes my room. The only thing stopping me is the practicality of it all. As I said my contract runs out mid July and I plan to move on from Oxford, but I'm not quite sure where yet, so buying lots of bulky home items just doesn't make sense.
Doesn't stop me from having a wee look and compiling a wish list though.
Maybe it's the vintage lover in me, but I've always fantasied of owning a turntable. My dad has an extensive vinyl record collection, which I've always had a fascination with. Some of my treasured childhood memories, and indeed more recent memories, are sitting with my dad on a Saturday listening to his vinyl collection and learning about the bands he loved. There are two things which I love about records, but I know are a pain to others; I love how they skip if you walked too heavy, and the static which is produced when you first touch the needle to the vinyl. Yes, they may not have the same clarity as a CD or a download, but there's something magical about pulling a record from it's sleeve and gently setting the needle on it.
I swear, it is taking everything in my power not to press 'add to cart' right now, so I think I should move on....
For those days when you need a little boost of confidence...
Again, for some reason I've always fantasied about having a big yellow teapot. Maybe its my love of hosting vintage style tea parties, but this is a definite must for me when I get a bit more settled. You can hold me to that, and you can all come round for a pot of tea.
Sticking to a kitchen theme, how can you not love these!
I've been fortunate enough to have done quite a lot of travelling in my life, and one thing which I would love to do is purchase a black and white map of the world and mark out all the cities and towns I've ever visited in my life. I realise this is a bit cheesy and slightly lame, and I have a feeling it may led to some confusion and big clusters of dots/stars. But, I've had some of my greatest memories travelling, so this will be a nice reminder of those times.
I already have an owl cushion which unfortunately is still in Belfast as I haven't managed to bring it over with me yet. However, with my love of foxes it's only logical I purchase this little guy?? Right??!
This list could literally go on and on. However, for the sake of your sanity and mine I'll stop it here.
Is there anything you've got your eye on? Which do you think I should go for first? I'm definitely going to have to treat myself to something. I mean it would be rude to write about it and not act on it....

I've always lusted after a turn table too, nothing beats the pure magic of a lp xxx
ReplyDeleteI love the fox cushion! I'm on a mission this year to make our house a little bit "nicer" but its an uphill battle I fear. Small space and no storage is never a good time :P
ReplyDeleteWe recently came into possession of a record player and you definitely need one in your everyday life. It really does just bring joy! I'm not by any means a ''vinyl snob'' but there's nothing like that crackle on the record. Bliss.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you can get moustache stickers for your glasses (pretty cheap too) and moustache straws ;)
xx
I love those moustache wine charms, so simple but you could have so much fun with them! x
